Third National Industrial Disaster Mock Exercise Organised Jointly by NDMA-FFC

Third National Level Industrial Disaster Mock Exercise was organised by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in collaboration with Fauji Fertiliser Company (FFC) at Goth Machi, District Rahim Yar Khan.

All relevant response agencies / stakeholders including Armed Forces, leading Fertiliser Industries, District Administration, Power and Sugar Industry, Civil Defense, Local Fire Brigade and CAER (Community Awareness Emergency Response), Engro, Mari Petroleum Company Limited, Fatima Fertilisers and Liberty Power participated in the exercise.

The exercise was a day long activity based on different scenarios from initial emergency till response to create awareness about ‘Disaster Management’ of an industrial accident.

Chairman NDMA Major General Asghar Nawaz HI(M) in his opening remarks welcomed all participants and highlighted the importance of industrial disaster management and appreciated efforts of all participants, especially Engro Fertilisers in hosting first and second mock exercises in 2010 and 2016 respectively while FFC for holding third mock exercise.

The exercise was organised in two phases. Phase-I Response covered the internal response mechanism of FFC on site, while Phase-II Response included District Administrations response to an industrial disaster, evaluating capacity of search and rescue operations, evacuation, and provision of medical treatment to affected persons.

Chairman NDMA, in his closing remarks appreciated participation of all participants and emphasised to enhance capacity of concerned industries and civil administration for combating industrial disasters and conducting relief / rehabilitation operations. He also mentioned that other industries must also follow program of Community Awareness on Emergency Response (CAER) as effectively embarked by FFC and Engro Fertilisers.
