NATO’s DISASTER / CONSEQUENCE MANAGEMENT EXERCISE – SRBIJA 2018
Serbia 8-11 October 2018 in Mladenovac and Arandjelova:
Pakistani Team of 17 x Rescuers (organised under National Disaster Management Authority) participated in a Disaster / Consequence Management Field Exercise “SRBIJA 2018” which took place from 8-11 October 2018 in Mladenovac and Arandjelovac, Municipalities of
Belgrade, Serbia. The exercise was jointly conducted by North Atlantic Treaty Organisation’s (NATO) Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and the Sector for Emergency Management of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Serbia.
This was the 18th EADRCC exercise and the first to be hosted by Republic of Serbia.
The scenario for the field exercise was based on an earthquake and cascading emergencies which affected the civil population and critical infrastructure in the area around Mladenovac and Arandjelovac. This exercise was the largest field exercise for disaster management organised
by NATO to date, with participation of 39 x countries (including the Host Nation),
14 x Organisations / Military Teams with total participation of approximately 3,000 persons.
The exercise not only helped improve the understanding & capacity of Pakistani Team Members to handle similar situations in Pakistan rather it also enhanced ties with NATO Country Members and the Republic of Serbia too. Furthermore, the Pakistani Team also witnessed and learnt the use of new techniques and technologies being used by various participating countries.
