Participation in National Consultation on Disaster Risk Financing (Strengthening Disaster Risk Financing in Pakistan)
Dubai, 03 – 05 July, 2019:
Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) attended National consultation on disaster risk financing at Dubai, hosted by World Bank. At the consultation a dialogue was exchanged by World Bank to support Disaster Risk Financing strategy in Pakistan to strengthen fiscal resilience against natural disasters.
Fundamental idea of the consultation was to develop DRF strategy to financially support government of Pakistan during natural catastrophes/disasters.
Earlier a dialogue was also held as phase 1 under leadership of 3 key stakeholders
1) National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)
2) Ministry of Finance
3) National disaster risk management fund (NDRMF)
Purpose of the consultation was to bring all stakeholders under one platform to better understand government disaster risk financing priorities and share knowledge of globally best known practices from countries like Turkey, Mexico and Philippines in strengthening DRF strategies.
