Major General Asghar Nawaz, serving general officer of Pakistan Army, assumed the Office of Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on 15 January 2015.
The General Officer got commissioned in September 1982 and joined Army Corps of Engineers. He is a graduate of prestigious national institutions including, Military College of Engineering Risalpur (BE (Civil), Command & Staff College Quetta (BSc (Hons) War Studies) and National Defence University (MSc War Studies).
General’s long and illustrious carrier is diverse and well accomplished. His professional experience includes commanding a field formation at Sindh and service on various command, staff and instructional assignments all over the Country and abroad. He served as UN Military Observer at Ivory Coast (UNOCI) from 2004 to 2005.
During his service in the Army, he remained actively involved in flood protection, relief & rescue operations on different occasions. He received “Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card” for rescue operations at Balochistan in year 1995.
The General managed Army wide IT Projects for over three years and headed Country’s Premier Organization, National Logistics Cell for two years. He remained on the faculty of National Defence University and contributed to the Pakistan Army Green Book and Pakistan Army Doctrine.
For his meritorious service in Army, General was conferred with Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) by the President of Pakistan on 23 March 2014.
