Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) convened a webinar titled "Global Best Practices on Disaster Risk Communication" today from NDMA HQs. This sessions brought together leading global experts, media representatives, and technology partners to discuss the future of disaster risk communication in Pakistan.
The event featured three dynamic panel discussions:
• Latest Technological Interventions in Risk Communication by GMSA
• Curbing Misinformation and Disinformation During Disasters by Fake News Watchdog
• Collaborative Strategies for Disaster Communication by ICIMOD
Participants explored how cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence and mobile connectivity, are transforming early warning systems and enabling timely, accurate dissemination of risk information to all segments of society. The vital role of the Global Satellite Mobile Association (GSMA) in supporting inclusive early warning mechanisms was highlighted as a model for national resilience.
Panelists also addressed the growing challenge of misinformation and disinformation during disasters. Experts emphasized the need for proactive fact-checking, media literacy, and multi-stakeholder collaboration to ensure that the public receives reliable and actionable information during crises.
The final session underscored the importance of collaborative strategies among government agencies, media, technology providers, and community organizations. Speakers called for strengthened partnerships and a unified approach to disaster communication, aiming to build public trust and enhance preparedness nationwide.
